Lake Lanier Fishing Report - May 2026
Spotted Bass, Striped Bass, and Catfish were consistent targets throughout May on Lake Lanier.
How May fished
May brought a steady pace of fishing to Lake Lanier. The back half of the month saw a stronger run of action, providing some excellent opportunities for anglers. Throughout the month, Spotted Bass, Striped Bass, and Catfish were reliable catches on most outings.
Largemouth Bass made an appearance on about half of our trips, while Crappie showed up now and then. We also encountered Gar occasionally, adding a bit of variety to the fishing. White Bass were also seen occasionally, contributing to the mixed bags we brought to the boat.
Striped Bass remained a steady presence throughout May, offering consistent action for those targeting them. The fishing conditions varied, but the overall experience was one of relaxed recreational angling, with plenty of good times shared on the water. Many days were spent enjoying the calm and sunny weather.
It was a pleasure to have Terry O and Alex Vasquez out on the water as well this month. They provided great experiences for their clients, contributing to the overall success of the fishing season. The teamwork and shared passion for fishing were evident throughout their time guiding.

What June looks like on Lake Lanier
The thermocline is locked in and stripers and spots slide down onto deep points and humps where we work them with downlines. Catfish and gar really turn on this month, feeding hard in the warmer water along channel edges and flats. Largemouth are still catchable around brush and dock lines but the bite slows some as the heat builds.
